How can I help?

We're so glad you asked... there are a number of ways you can help Chances, financial or otherwise.

Make a donation
You can make a one-off donation, to the value of your choosing via GiveNow.com.au

Community fundraising
Are you part of a community group who fundraises to support the community? Chances has been fortunate to be a nominated beneficiary of proceeds from various fundraising efforts by locals groups, schools and individuals. Nominate Chances as the 'Charity of Choice' for your next event. Your business or community group may also like to partner with Chances in a fundraising activity.  We would love to work with you where possible and can provide some support to help with your event.

Remember Chances in your Will
By remembering Chances and all the young people we support in your Will, you can leave a lasting legacy of hope and vitality for your community. You have a number of options in terms of making a gift or bequest in your Will and we encourage you to seek advice from a solicitor or financial advisor.

Become a Sustaining Supporter
Our Sustaining Supporters are local businesses and individuals who have committed to ongoing financial support of Chances, with a minimum pledge of $1000 per year. Through these ongoing pledges, Chances is able to plan financially into the future and be confident in making a commitment to support our local young people.

Be a Workplace Giver
Workplace Giving is a simple program where you have the opportunity to donate to Chances directly from your organisation's payroll. It is a voluntary program where you elect to make a donation which is deducted directly from your gross salary each pay period. You also get the benefit of giving 'pre-tax', making the value of each dollar go further, while receiving a tax benefit at the same time. Over a period of twelve months, a small weekly or fortnightly deduction is not greatly missed and really adds up to a significant amount to support a young person.

Volunteer
If you would like to make a non-financial contribution to Chances, you can always volunteer your time with us. Chances has a number of working groups and committees you can join as an interested community member, or you might like to volunteer for our tertiary mentor program to provide some assistance to a young person transitioning to University.

FAQs

How do we know our money is going to the right place?
Chances has a number of checks and balances by way of our governance structure.

Applications for funding are assessed by District Selection Committees (one in Mildura, the other in Swan Hill) who recommend support to the Mallee Family Care Board of Management.

The Mallee Family Care Board is responsible for the governance of Chances for Children. Ultimate financial decisions are made by Mallee Family Care Board of Management.

Now you have the money, what do you do with it?
Chances for Children strive to ensure that the absence of money or support will not stand in the way of a young person achieving their potential.

Our focus is on providing financial support to recipients, who without our help, may not have the opportunity to pursue their education or realise their talents in sport or the arts. We tailor funding to each individual recipient, to give them the best chance for success.

The majority of our support goes to young people hoping to pursue tertiary education outside of the district and are required to relocate to be able to achieve this goal.  Along with financial support for our tertiary students, we also offer a tertiary mentoring program using volunteer mentors to assist with a recipient’s transition to university.

Chances for Children relies heavily on the generosity of our local community to enable forward financial planning. This makes it possible to accurately assess our ability to assist young people through our funding rounds and make a real difference in their lives.

Partnerships can take place in many different forms. Please contact us to find out more about how you can make a difference.
