Chances scholarships should be treated as a last resort.  We encourage you to also apply for other scholarship options and other sources of funding (general scholarships; government support) as well as applying to Chances.

Students eligible for Centrelink’s Start-up Loan are encouraged to opt in and may still be eligible for a Chances Scholarship. 

Apprentices are encouraged to opt-in for the Trade Support Loan.

Rural Chances Scholarships are for young rural Victorians who have career aspirations but are facing significant financial or social challenges in accessing their opportunities. Macpherson Smith Rural Foundation (MSRF) are offering 10 scholarships valued at $5,000 and a further 10 smaller scholarships of up to $2,000.

Our kids are the future of the bush. Whites Rural Community Grants are designed to make a difference to kids in regional, rural, and remote areas. There are four key areas that are covered | Science and sustainability | Arts and music | Sport and recreation | Social well-being (these are a guide only) Applications open 1st October and finish 30th November. Closed for 2017

QLS Group Wimmera Mallee Scholarship. This scholarship is available to students commencing at University College in 2018 and for each subsequent year that the student resides at University College while studying at the University of Melbourne.
Awarded to a student from the Wimmera Mallee region of Victoria with financial need, ongoing for a maximum of three years.

If you do get awarded a scholarship from another source, there is still a possibility that Chances will assist you by topping up your scholarship if you are still in financial need.


The Elite Indigenous Travel and Accommodation Assistance Program (EITAAP) is an initiative that is jointly managed by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) and Australian Government Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C).
Funding is available for athletes, coaches, managers or officials to assist with out-of-pocket travel and accommodation expenses when attending eligible national championships or international competitions.

Opening the Doors Foundation The Foundation was formed to help cover the gaps in existing funding, not to duplicate or take the place of existing services. As a result applications requesting support for school uniforms, book lists, levies, VET & VCAL subjects and extra-curricular activities will take priority.
The Applicant (student) must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and supply a Confirmation of Aboriginality.

The Department of Education and Training administers more than 25 different student scholarships which equates to approximately 250 scholarship awards (as some scholarships have more than the one award).
Year 12 Scholarships - these scholarships are for students who are studying in Victoria (Australia), who are currently completing year 12 and who are citizens or permanent residents of Australia.
Tertiary Scholarships - these scholarships are for students who are studying in Victoria (Australia)  and who are citizens or permanent residents of Australia.

The Marrung Education Scholarships program provides scholarships to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Years 11 and 12. 

The Athlete Pathway Travel Grants Program provides grants to improve Victorian athlete development pathways from community to national representation level.

The Local Sporting Champions program is designed to support young people participating in state, national and international level sporting championships as an athlete, coach or official.
